Kaya Free, originally from Bujumbura in Burundi, began rapping in 2001. He began by writing texts when he was at school in his draft notebook.

From the beginning, his will was to transmit a message of peace and freedom hence his name Kaya Free, a mixture of words in Jamaican languages (Kaya: big) and English (Free: Free), which means ” great freedom”.

In 2010, after his studies, he began to record at the Roc House Record studio, in his Mutanga-Sud district.
His first songs such as “Moi” and “I have a dream” are a total success with people who acclaim him as a new rapper. It was then that he decided to have a career.

In 2011, he created, with his friend Adonis (ADO), a group of young pupils and students called “Agati k’Imana” which means shrub of God. This group was very successful throughout the city of Bujumbura and everywhere we only talked about his crew “Agatik Music”.

In 2016, he released his first album entitled “Agatik Music Vol.1” and occasionally organized several concerts to promote his talent and his crew.

In 2017, he released a second album bearing his name “La grande liberté”. The latter relates the ideologies of positive change of mentalities and a beautiful vision for her country Burundi and the African continent in general.
Listening mainly to French rap, Kaya Free is inspired by the music of French-speaking artists such as Soprano and Youssoupha. Now he has 4 Albums on his account and lives on two continents (Africa and America).

In 2020, Kaya Free started a brand new career as a film actor and has already signed his very first contract in an American science fiction film NEPTUNE FROST which was released, for the very first time, at the Cannes Film Festival in the “Directors’ Fortnight” section.

Since 2022, Kaya Free has returned to Canada and the artist is now working on building his artistic career in Canada.
